How Do You Forgive Evil – Reverend Anthony Thompson and Polly Sheppard

On June 17, 2015, there was a shooting at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. Polly Sheppard was in the room during the attack. She was confronted by the shooter, but spared. Rev. Anthony Thompson’s wife, Myra, was killed, along with eight other close friends. In this interview, Anthony and Polly share how they coped with the aftermath of the tragedy. They talk about the history of slavery in Charleston and the racial tensions in the city, which are slowly being healed through interfaith events and cooperation between churches.

They also share how God spoke to each of them, encouraging them to forgive the shooter for his crimes, and how that forgiveness helped them heal and find freedom from hatred.
