At the height of the coronavirus pandemic, a drive-up graduation ceremony was in order. Parents in one of Denver’s underserved communities who had just completed Raising Highly Capable Kids classes could not get the usual pomp and circumstance graduation other graduating classes normally receive because of COVID-19.
So staff and program facilitators decided they’d hold a “drive-up graduation ceremony.” They decorated their cars with lettering, flags, and signs, and pulled up in front of their houses with great fanfare, music, and honking of horns. The group delivered backpacks from Goya Foods full of goodies, including graduation certificates, food and more.
Members of Libre Institute provided support and supplies for the parents as they took part in the classes. The program also received sponsorships from Walmart and Safeway.
While it was an unusual time, with everyone quarantined in their homes for the most part and wearing face masks whenever they had to venture outside, the parents were still grateful for the unique ceremony.
